 In Extended Day Programs

Sanchez Elementary Extended Day Program (EDP) 2nd grade class has attended a trapeze course for the past seven weeks at the Marsh Youth Theater. Marsh Youth Theater offers classes year-round to K-12th grade students. Classes are instructed by theater and performance professionals who are bilingual, with an emphasis on Spanish and English.

Mission Graduates Extended Day Programs are designed to include engaging enrichment activities in their curriculum planning. Charlotte La Riviere, who is Sanchez EDP’s Program Director, knew youth theater was a perfect fit for developing student creativity. Riviere accompanied students once a week from Sanchez Elementary to the Marsh Youth Theater to ensure students were able to attend class and be active participants this fall semester.

Students were excited to showcase their hard work to their parents, families, and educators. The trapeze class is a great opportunity for students to discover their own aerial movement skills and physical awareness. Through technique and improvisation, they were able to contemplate the physics involved in their moves while suspended in the air. All while communicating with their class instructor in Spanish and English!
