 In Extended Day Programs

Where does poetry hide? Students are often surprised, if not thrilled, to discover the answer. Poetry hides within us, around us, and in between unexpected places. This is the beauty of engaging students in the writing of poetry. Kids realize they are poets and shine in knowing they have a story to tell, can write about their lives and environment, and have the ability to express themselves freely.

The students at the Marshall Elementary Tutoring Center have been writing poems during the month of February. They love that they can be short, rhyming, about almost anything, or free-verse and released from the structured of rhyme or format. Classes have been writing individual as well as group poems, having fun with words, space, and form.

All of our students will share their voice at our culminating poetry event on March 6 at St. John’s Church.

We cannot wait to celebrate our poets!
