Almost everyone is familiar with March Madness, the uncontrollable enthusiasm felt during the annual college basketball tournament. College basketball fans weren’t the only ones on the edge of their seats during the month of March. Mission District fifth graders also experienced excitement as they received middle school placement letters.
Marshall Elementary’s very own Karla Bolaños has been oscillating between various school choices. Karla has been one of the few students in the area to have been awarded with a three year scholarship to receive private school education.
The SMART program provides highly motivated, financially-disadvantaged students with access to educational opportunities, personal experiences and social support services in order to foster academic excellence and community engagement. Karla and her family had some difficult decisions to make, but in end they chose Marin Country Day School, a renowned private school located in Sausalito, CA.
Although Karla will surely miss Marshall Elementary and the Tutoring Center, she is excited by the prospect of attending a small school that specializes in personalized education. It is safe to say that SMART kids really do attend the Tutoring Center at Marshall Elementary.
Congratulations Karla and best of luck!
