Latina Tech Mentor Program

Using a 1-to-1 model of digital literacy training, Spanish-speaking volunteers are trained to support parents in creating learning goals, increasing comfort levels with digital literacy, introducing online educational resources, and finding new ways to integrate technology into family life.

The parent leaders then become mentors themselves, teaching new parents in their school community, thus creating a self-sustaining and expanding community of parents learning different ways to engage with educational resources online.

The Latino Tech Mentor Program:

Our Program

The Parent Tech Mentorship program is based on a one-on-one mentorship model where a mentor with a strong command of social media and communication technologies facilitates the development of tech skills to parents leaders at Mission Graduates.

The goal of this project is to educate parent leaders involved in Mission Graduates in computer skills. The parent leaders will be able to efficiently and effectively use online resources both in a professional setting with Mission Graduates and at home with their children.

As a mentor, you will meet twice a month with your mentee, develop a personalized work plan, and begin to tackle areas parents feel will support their outreach work for Mission Graduates, as well as academic resources that will support their own student’s academic success.

We will provide curriculum, resources, and ongoing training and support you throughout the one-year commitment.

We’re seeking Spanish-speaking women who are available to meet in the Mission District Monday-Friday between 9am-5pm.

Please contact our Latina Tech Mentorship Program Coordinator Maria Paz Zuniga at mariapaz@missiongraduates.org

Testimonials

  • It's been so exciting to watch parents use their new computer skills and to know they are practicing on their own to get better.  It's such a simple thing, but it really means personal and professional development.
