Rene began her journey, immigrating to the United States from Guatemala as a young girl. She spent the majority of her formative years growing up in Los Angeles and is a product of public education. Raised by her mother, along with her older sister and younger brother, she was brought up with one family tradition-eating dinner at the table together daily.
She is the first in her family to graduate from a four year university as well as the first to earn a graduate degree in education. She is proud of her Central Valley alma matters, UC Merced and University of the Pacific, Stockton. She initially joined the Mission Graduates family in 2014 as the 3rd grade classroom coordinator and enjoyed her time in the classroom so much that she pursued her teaching credential and returned to teach 3rd grade for a Spanish bilingual program in SFUSD.
She believes in cultivating a strong, collaborative, and inclusive community both for her staff and students alike. Additionally, Rene strives to create spaces that value hard work, mutual respect and responsibility. She is thrilled to bring her classroom teaching experience to afterschool, and is excited to rejoin the Mission Graduates family.
