Juan Kanagui joins the Mission Graduates team as Director of Institutional Partnerships and is excited about making a positive impact on the lives of Mission District families. His duties will include maintaining and developing foundation partnerships and writing grants for Mission Graduates’ K-12 programs.
Prior to joining Mission Graduates, Juan worked as an educator, program director, and fundraising professional at various education nonprofits and programs helping first-generation, under-resourced, and immigrant students enroll, matriculate, and graduate from college. Juan is a first-generation college student and knows first-hand the benefits of a college education having benefited from programs such as the Educational Opportunity Program, TRIO’s Upward Bound and Talent Search programs, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Juan was born in Baja California, Mexico and immigrated with his parents to California’s Central Valley at the age of 4. Juan received his Masters of Science in Fundraising Management from Columbia University in 2015 and his Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of California at Irvine in 2004. In his spare time, Juan enjoys writing fiction and poetry, golfing, swimming, and playing chess.
