Families Leading Educational Change

About our Parent Partner Program

Mission Graduates’ Parent Partner Program supports Latinx families in San Francisco to advocate effectively for their children’s education. Using the culturally responsive Promotora (peer educator) model, we provide workshops, leadership training, and resource connections primarily for monolingual immigrant parents. This approach creates lasting impact, empowering families to become active partners in their children’s educational journey from elementary school through higher education.

The Promotora Approach

Our program relies on trained community members who support fellow parents. These dedicated leaders work across multiple schools, facilitating workshops, and connecting families to resources. They develop professional skills while creating vital communication channels between families, schools, and community resources.

School Decision-Making

We prepare parents to participate in school governance through English Learner Advisory Committees (ELAC) and School Site Councils. Promotoras coach parents on decision-making processes, helping them advocate for multilingual learners and bilingual education.

Workshops and Support

Promotoras create spaces by parents, for parents, often partnering with city agencies, like the SF Public Library and Kindergarten to College. These workshops provide tools for navigating the school system and building a higher education culture at home. Our virtual workshops extend our reach to families throughout San Francisco.
