Celebrating Community: Our Open House on 16th Street
Last week, we opened our doors at 3040 16th Street to celebrate our newly renovated office—and the Mission community showed up in full force.
A Night of Connection and Commitment
The evening began with remarks from District 9 Supervisor Jackie Fielder, who spoke about our shared commitment to Mission District students and families. Her words captured exactly what we needed to hear: hope, investment in our community, and a vision for the future we’re building together.
After more than 50 years serving this neighborhood, staying rooted on the 16th Street corridor isn’t just about having a physical space—it’s about demonstrating our long-term commitment to the families who call this community home.

Books, Gratitude, and Community
One of the highlights of the evening was our book drive. Guests arrived with arms full of new books for our classroom libraries, and by the end of the night, we had collected enough donations to stock shelves across our nine Extended Day and Beacon school sites. These books will put new stories in the hands of students who need them, sparking curiosity and building a love of reading.
Looking Ahead
Throughout the evening, we had the joy of connecting with school partners, volunteers, board members, donors, and friends—the people who make our work possible every single day. We shared student success stories, toured our refreshed space, and celebrated the community that sustains us.
Our doors remain open. If you weren’t able to join us but would like to visit and learn more about our work, we’d love to welcome you. Reach out anytime—we’re here.

Thank You
To everyone who celebrated with us: thank you. Your presence, your generosity with the book drive, and your continued belief in this work mean everything.
Here’s to the exciting work ahead—together.
