Gateway to College is a program at City College of San Francisco that serves students between 16-20, who have dropped out of high school in San Francisco or may not graduate.

Students take courses that help earn credit towards their high school diploma and a college degree or certificate at the same time.

More Employers to Require Some College, Report Says

The report makes clear that some education after high school is an increasing prerequisite for entry into the middle class. In 1970, for example, nearly three-quarters of workers considered to be middle class had not gone beyond high school in their education; in 2007, that figure had dropped below 40 percent, according to the report.

“High school graduates and dropouts will find themselves largely left behind in the coming decade as employer demand for workers with postsecondary degrees continues to surge,” write the report’s authors, led by Anthony P. Carnevale, the center’s director.

And yet the report further underscores a trend evident in recent years in reports from the Bureau of Labor Statistics: sometimes a certificate in a particular trade, a two-year associate’s degree or just a few years of college may be as valuable to one’s career (and income) as a traditional bachelor’s degree.

Quest Foundation has issued a Challenge Grant for $27,000. Join us in our challenge to raise an additional $27,000 which Quest Foundation will match. Once we submit proof of the match, Quest Foundation will issue a check. Bernard and Alba Witkin Charitable Trust has already stepped up to match $10,000, therefore reducing our fundraising goal to $17,000.

The total contribution of $54,000 will go towards supporting key leadership positions at our flagship Tutoring Center! This year 120 students received after school tutoring from six staff members and twenty volunteers daily from 2:30-6pm thanks to your contributions. Please consider giving here so we can continue to provide after school support to 120 families in the Mission!

We’ll give you an overview of Mission Graduates, meet board and staff, and then walk half a block to Kid Power Park and our Tutoring Center to meet some of the youth we work with.
