Maria has over 7 years of experience working in the non-profit and education sector. A strong proponent of youth empowerment and holistic learning she has worked in various capacities, in both her personal and professional career, to service our youths and their families.

She currently serves as the Tutoring Center Program Director of Marshall Elementary, in which she oversees Mission Graduates’ flagship program. Prior to her promotion, Maria taught on the front-lines as a classroom coordinator with Mission Graduates.

In her previous positions, Maria was a credentialed teacher at Byrne Elementary, a K-8 school in Chicago, where she developed and implemented a visual arts curriculum for over 3 years. A strong desire to step in the non profit sector led her to conduct volunteer work abroad in Ghana where she developed a creative arts unit in a remote village school and orphanage. This journey solidified her desire to work with under-privileged youth and upon her move to San Francisco she was accepted into AmeriCorps, where she empowered the female youth of Oakland through Girls Inc.

Maria holds a BFA from the University of Illinois Champaign, Urbana where she majored in Art Education.
